Bizarrely the late train to Holyhead (00.40 from Chester) still runs but is intentionally timed to miss the ferry connection, enough time to stroll down to Salt Island to watch them depart, just not enough time to meet the check-in time.

Why would it be intentionally timed to miss the ferry? Are they trying prevent sairail tickets being used or something like that?

W B Yeats finally entered service this morning on the 8.05 sailing from Dublin to Holyhead. Departed around 9.30.

it really isn't very pretty- I'm guessing though it is optimised for a combination of capacity, speed, efficiency and sea handling. The new Brittany Ferries Honfluer is from the same yard and is a slightly smaller version of the same hull.. There's also four smaller truck-only versions on the Irish Sea, all built for Seatruck but with two on lease to Stena.

Looking through the builder's webesite, it's just their standard basic hull shape- very square for most of the length with a swept-back but sharp transition to the bow taper, with generally a very forward bridge
