A new station car park to the south of the station was built as a West Midlands Trains franchise commitment. It was completed during Covid and has never opened. Does anyone know if there are plans to open it?

Didn't know that's WMT's, thought it belonged to the Council!

I'm not sure how needed it is. With reduced commuting and cheaper options (e.g. street parking one block up from the station and walking down - the bit nearer the station has restrictions) parking near MKC is fairly easy and cheap these days.

I'd be tempted to bet on it being pulled down and a block of flats, office building or hotel going up on it instead.

Apparently it cost £8.5m but opening it would require the council to provide further funding which they aren't prepared to do at this point because the post covid demand isn't there.

the building absolutely made sense pre covid but was completed about the time of lockdown and so sits there like the proverbial white elephant.

What's the position with the utilisation levels of the current multi-storey.

I got caught out twice with it being full when I'd gone to park for a few days, when working further north, and haven't risked it since.

I don't know about the main multi storey as I hardly ever use it, but there are plenty of options including the Network Rail multi storey, on street and a few others. Cheapest is to head up past Witan Gate (so out of the morning permit-only area) and park on street in a Standard Rate bay.

If going south maybe consider Bletchley, it's never even nearly full.

Perfect companion for the nearby bus station then :)

To be fair to that having the buses directly outside the station as any sensible European country would is probably more sensible than having them the other side of a road (even if there is an underpass). Not that the current "bus station" design is very good.

The original was built before a railway station was even being considered, I believe.
