I suspect the land in question sits in the triangle formed by the two routes west from Aldwarke Junction, and Aldwarke Lane public road. The mention of tram access makes sense, as it’s a stones throw from the current terminus at Parkgate, and would allow connectivity between all services.

Will it happen? Who knows!

Didn't they spend miillions on rebuilding the current station not that long ago?

I can’t find when it was meant to start. It was meant to finish December 2010 but overran quite a while.

Whilst the refurbishment got rid of the fun spiral ramps down to the platform, it did get rid of the smell of urine which was good.

Probably the best opportunity for a station within Rotherham serving both lines with tram terminus. Supertram can be extended there by one stop from Parkgate.

There seems to be something of an omission in the Council's plans; Whether the TOCs which currently bypass Rotherham via the Masborough line (TPE and XC) would actually agree to stop their trains at the new station?!!

There's also northerns Scarborough to Sheffield every hour.

The whole area around Parkgate has seen massive retail development, it really is the new Rotherham town centre as far as a lot of locals are concerned but the roads are a nightmare and bus services are focused on serving the traditional town centre

You could travel the length and breadth of the UK direct from Rotherham up to the 80s, at least.

Regarding future operations and services. Do we even know that franchises like XC and TPE will be the operating model.

The plans have been muttered for years locally with a station already being on site in days gone by.

The council really wants an express service such as XC and have made no secret about doing so.

Theres also a fair argument to be made that adding this station could reduce the number of trains at the Central station and free up paths.
