Hi all
Hoping to get some shared opinion in regards to how to get the best value from GA into London.
I notice that unless I get a 9:40 or later service the website / App charges nearly £38 for a ticket with an off peak travel card. Even though the off peak period starts @
9:30 and on an earlier train I would be crossing the zone boundary after 9:30, just seems a deliberate way to extract the most from the customer ( what a surprise )
I’ve noticed that if you go into a mainline station then you can get a return for around £22, which does not seem so bad, I could travel into Victoria and walk to work, although usually get a tube. Would that ticket allow me to exit the London Underground at a different station as long as it’s zone one ?
Final point, I am convincing myself that the train fares on the Cambridge to Liverpool Street line are rising above other fares and that where you could once get a 9:14 train and be “off peak” it’s now considered “peak” despite there clearly being less people…
It’s all a bit of a headache and at its cheapest it’s now costing nearly £50 to get into London and to work before 10. It’s frankly already unaffordable for many, and I only use it as the cheaper fares kick in with a Network rail card.
