Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I have bought my train mad 6 year old his 1st hornby set for Christmas (a HS1 southeastern). He has since written a letter to Santa asking for a Northern rail train!! I have bought one from eBay but it has a predominately white Livery & not something I have seen before. I know he will ask questions about this & I was wondering if anyone knows if Northern still run these trains & if so are they on a particular line as I would like him to see one before he opens his present. If not I will have to make him believe they are special & he needs to keep his eyes peeled :)
Thanks in advance.

Could you post a picture or a link to the eBay auction please?

He could have seen 158809(?), which is mostly white...?
158752 is the partially refurbished Northern class 158 which wears the new livery, but bears little resemblance to the handful of North West class 156s experimentally reliveried in the early days of Northern Rail which this thread is discussing.

158809 is a class 159 these days.

That's the one. Thanks for the info, looks like I've picked up a rare find!!

156425 was one of five class 156 units to carry an experimental version of the Northern Rail house colours to gauge opinion on what livery should be carried by the entire Northern Rail fleet. The final livery was based on one of the other versions and is mostly 'midnight blue'.

I believe that the final livery has been released on a Hornby class 142, a Hornby class 156 (with Settle and Carlisle advertising elements), a Bachmann class 150, a Bachmann class 158, and a RealTrack Models class 144. Of these, the latter three are the better models, but tend to carry a higher price tag.
