Just wondered if anybody on here knows whether in the following circumstances the 04:30 transport day change for fares purposes is relevant.

This is for TfL travel only, within London, Oyster not contactless, bus only.

Board night bus at 0400

Board second night bus at 0450

The 0430 day change for fares purposes will or won’t affect the hopper fare?

(For those who don’t know, the hopper fare simply means you can usually board any number of London buses within an hour of the first touch and be charged one fare only)

I regularly get a bus at 04:00 from A to B then a 04:45 bus from B to C and it's always been the hopper fare £1.75

It seems to work as though the principle is that once you've tapped on a bus or tram, all further taps with the next hour are ignored, come what may. However, that isn't a blanket rule, since if you use the last credit on your Oyster and then change buses within the hour, the second bus rejects your card, even though no money is due. So the subtleties of the system aren't obvious...

Oysters with a negative balance are rejected

For daily/Mon-Sun cap purposes a fare deducted at 0400 (i.e. between 0329-0429) would count towards the previous day (= the current charging day)'s cap regardless of taps on further buses
