How does it work when switching between the underground and DLR?

I'll be going from Kings Cross to Royal Victoria via Tower Hill / Tower Gateway. Do you do it as if it was two journeys? I.e. touch in, out, in out? Or just in at Kings Cross and out at Royal Victoria?

Providing you don't exceed the allowed interchange time of 15 minutes between Tower Hill and Tower Gateway or vice-versa it will be treated as one journey. See http://www.oyster-rail.org.uk/out-of-station-interchange-osi/ for more details.

You need to touch out and in again, but the two journeys will be joined together if you don't exceed the time.

You need to touch out to get through the barriers at Tower Hill anyhow, and then again on the platform at Tower Gateway. Though this will counted as one journey due to an OSI between Hill and Gateway stations.

Tower Gateway station is in a different building down the road to Tower Hill station, so obviously you'll have to touch out and touch back in, but it's counted as an "out-of-station interchange" and you'll be charged for a single journey.

At stations which share Tube and DLR (such as Bank) you normally can get between the platforms without passing any barriers, so you don't need to touch in/touch out when changing.
