I'm hoping to travel to London next week and I need to get from Paddington to Tower Hill. I used to get the 15 bus, but as that no longer runs all the way I'm thinking of using the Underground.

Would I be right in thinking that to avoid changing I can either take the H&C towards Baker St or the Circle towards Victoria? Which would be the quickest (or most convenient with luggage)?

If you are travelling Monday or Tuesday then you will have to go anti-clockwise via Victoria as there is no service between Hammersmith and Moorgate. From Wednesday onwards everything is open (according to the TFL website ) so you can get a Circle Line from the H&C platforms at Paddington and go via Aldgate or a Circle Line from the Circle & District Line platforms via Victoria.

Alternatively, if you don't mind one change, the quickest way is probably to get the southbound Bakerloo and change at Embankment.

It's Wednesday! I'd rather avoid the deep tubes and changing as we will have luggage and Mrs Greenback can only cope (just about) with the sub surface lines due to claustrophobia! That's why the 15 bus was so good for us!

The H&C doesn't go to Tower Hill.

I'd get either the Circle line Eastbound from the H&C platforms, direct to Tower Hill via Kings X, or the Circle line Southbound from the District line platforms, direct to Tower Hill via Victoria. I'm not sure which is actually quicker...

You could get the 205 to Aldgate station then walk (about 1/4 mile)?

Right, I looked it up in the journey planner on the TfL site - going from the H&C platforms, via Kings X takes 26 mins, going from the District platforms via Victoria takes 31 mins.

It's only a small difference, so may be worth factoring in where you're arriving from - if you're on a train coming in on the opposite side of the station from the H&C platforms, it might be better to go via Victoria anyway to save the long walk across the station?

That's interesting, I didn't think there would be much difference.

I hadn;t considered the 205 bus, that's a good idea - depending on the weather the walk would be OK to avoid the tube altogether, although it would be a longer journey overall...I'd better consult my other half!
