Sorry for maybe over sharing , but also came across this run of Platform 5 Motive Power Pocket Books . I am starting with 1980s , but will get onto the 90s soon

Now some enthusiasts where Ian Allan and others Platform 5 - But the covers tell the story of the era , eg the brand new Class 58 for Spring 1983 or the Steam Heat Class 25 on a Sleeper service for Winter 1982 issue and a Deltic for the Summer of 1981.

Hope that kick starts a few memories

Found the 1st Issue form 1978 , along with the rest of the 1970s issues .

Do like the note on the cover of 1978 for both HST and APT Formations

I only have one, someone gave that to me about 5 years ago that was the winter 1981 one.
---
They had an experiment circa 1982 when they listed withdrawn locos amongst current rolling stock, does anyone know which edition it is?

The only other oddment they did seems to be in 1989 when they issued this Summer Special , a soft backed issue , but detailing all Locomotives, Coaching Stock and Multiple Units .

They still did the Hardbacked full combined that year so a real one off

Now on to the Combined Volumes , those Hard backed specials that only the posh kids seemed to have. You never saw them out on spotting days , kept a home clean , for neat under lining later that evening or even at the weekend .

I have just come across almost a 30 year run, so thought i would share a few covers , sure to bring back memories .

I will try and have them all scanned and up on my site later today - www.transportpasttimes

Enjoy

Wrong choice of word , sorry , just the Big Combined always seemed out of reach on my pocket money , Platform 5 and Ian Allan

Good memories. That first issue was my first spotting book, bought by my dad who knew Peter "The Lord" Fox, the publisher.

This webpage, showing the covers of all editions of the Platform 5 'Motive Power Pocket Book' and its subsequent change of title to 'Locomotives', may be of interest:

Other pages on the same site are devoted to other Platform 5 titles and various Ian Allan titles.

Only just seen this with the update to thread, many thanks :) I'd want a copy, but going for £9 on eBay.
