I've been to Plymouth on many occasions, and I have never seen any pub near to the station, sorry.

The nearest pub is surely the oddly named "Pennycomequick" just 200mtrs west of the station, on the roundabout of Alma Road and Stuart Road. (Turn right on exiting the station and turn first right again up the busy Alma Road and carry on under the railway bridge. Its on the next junction).

There's a huge range of bars, cafes and restaurants on the popular Mutley Plain, about 1km in the opposite direction - eastwards out of the station, walk over the lines and walk alongside the track until you get there - you'll see Mutley Plain ahead of you as soon as you cross the tracks.

OK, Many tks for that, I think I should try for the "Pennycomequick" even if just for the name. (I wonder if Penny was a lady of easy morals who was "Kind" to the sailors in this naval city?)

I must have missed the Pennycomequick, I'm sure I walked that way! I was desperately looking for lunch, but I ended up with a Spar pasty and a can of pop!

The Pennycomequick is closed down and now student housing - it takes 10 mins to walk into town or 15 to get to Mutley where you'll find the usual chains.

Its closed down? :(<D

that was a canny pub, well apart from the Wurzels being on constant loop last time I went to Argyle away!

Well at least that might explain why I didn't notice it! Not like me to miss a pub!

Maybe that's not too much of a surprise with such a rapidly growing student population (and dwindling trade for traditional pubs).
Mutley Plain it is, then! (I'd say its a bit quicker than 15 mins, though, if walking along the north side of the tracks)

In fact the Spar mini supermarket in the concourse was very well stocked with a good choice of hot and cold food to take out.
