Good evening,

I'm planning a trip from Friedrichshafen to Prague via Munich. My plan is to purchase a Quer-durchs-land ticket for travel as far as the Czech border and then purchase another ticket for travel to Prague.

The article on the Munich to Prague services on seat61 https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/munich-to-prague-by-train.htm#Route_map says that a Bavaria and Bohemia regional day ticket is valid as far as Plzen. However, if I search for fares from Friedrichshafen to Plzen, the only fare that appears is the full-price fare.

Does this mean that the Quer-durchs-land ticket is not valid for travel as far as Plzen?

Thanks in advance.

I had a look at the conditions but QdL is not valid in Cezchia.

No, the Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket is only valid until the last stop in Germany, see p. 6-14 here: https://deutschlandtarifverbund.de/...220_Teil_I_9_TB_DT_Geltungsber_Aktionsang.pdf

The Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket is one specific type of day ticket, and that would be valid there, see pages 102-109 in the link above.

If you wanna use the Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket, you'd need a ticket from Friedrichshafen to Ulm or Kressborn as that's where that ticket's validity starts.

If you wanna go via Munich you can take a local train from Friedrichshafen to Lindau for 5,5€, from Lindau to Munich you can take the ECE Zürich-Munich for less then 20€ if you book in advance and from Munich you can then take the ALX to Prague, also for less then 20€ if you book on cd.cz.
Much better then the rubbish-QdL ticket if you ask me...

no, it is only valid up to Kaldenkirchen, for the ive minutes over the border you have to buy a VRR ticket, or risk your luck...

Thanks for your replies everyone.

I've subsequently found there is a flixbus service from Friedrichshafen to Munich. I'll be travelling in a group of people with luggage so they might prefer to travel by coach, especially as the EC service from Lindau to Munich only runs once every two hours.

That document doesn't say that validity ends at the last stop in Germany. It just lists the operators where it is valid, which means until the tariff border point.
The DB conditions just say: "Ein Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket berechtigt zur Fahrt in Zügen der Produktklasse C (IRE, RE, RB und S-Bahn) der Verkehrsunternehmen des DB Konzerns."
That also means until the tariff border point.
Where does it say explicitly that it is valid until the last stop in Germany?

Or alternatively, the BB Ticket is not valid at Friedrichshafen - Nonnenhorn, a couple of stops away, is the first.

Bear in mind that the bus station is one stop away from Munich Hbf on the S-bahn. Not that that's a problem with a BB ticket.

Incidentally, Friedrichshafen-Plzen doesn't connect particularly well using the ECE - speed means going via Ulm which is much more expensive.

I think you will find that Czech tickets are rather cheap, esp if you buy it from the Cesky Drahy website. Take the QDL for Germany and buy the CD ticket online for the last leg.

Friedrichshafen-Praha through ticket via Nuremberg from cd.cz is 28 GBP. Although quite a few changes, so probably not advisable with luggage etc.

cd.cz is super wierd with prices I find, all the routes via München are suddenly upwards of EUR 100 even if you only start in Ulm.

München-Praha ALX is like 12 GBP direct via cd.cz, then the Friedrichshafen-München RE/ECE via Lindau was something like 19.90 EUR if booked far enough in advance. I'd probably do that tbh.

Yes, First Minute Europe to Southern Germany and beyond is valid via Cheb only, and only using DB across the border (which is annoyingly only 5x/day rather than 7x)

I wasn't sure about whether it's the Grenztarifpunkt or the last stop, so I wrote the latter to be safe. Happy to be corrected though
