Hi there,

Would greatly appreciate some guidance.

I live in Sutton and I'm starting a new job in Cobham. I'm looking to get a monthly season ticket. My journey in the morning would likely be:

07:45 Sutton Common [SUC] to Wimbledon [WIM]

08:19 Wimbledon [WIM] to Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon [CSD]

However, my journey in the evening would ideally be:

17:57 Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon [CSD] to Wimbledon [WIM]

then taking the Croydon Tram Link to Mitcham Tramlink Stop and catching the 280 bus home (this would get me home a bit quicker than going from Wimbledon to Sutton Common station).

Flexibility is important: I want a ticket than can be used on London trams and buses. I also want a ticket that will allow me to alter my journey if the trains to or from Cobham are delayed/cancelled (so I could go to, say, Thames Ditton and catch a bus to Cobham instead).

I thought the ideal ticket would therefore be:

Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon [CSD] to London Zones 3-6 (a monthly cost of £224.70)

(I am unable to reverse the stations on National Rail's Season ticket calculator)

But my questions are:

Would I be able to start my morning journey in Sutton Common rather than Cobham [CSD]?

Would the ticket allow me to enter/exit at any station within Zones 3-6?

Does the ticket cover travel on London trams and buses?

Also, it might be worth mentioning, at no point would usually I be going through a ticket barrier (there isn't currently one at Sutton Common, Cobham, or Thames Ditton), and therefore I would only have to worry about ticket inspectors.

Thank you for reading. Any help would be much appreciated.

Mark

Yes, as Sutton Common is in zones 3-6 and the route you propose from the zone 6 boundary to Cobham is the obvious one.

Yes

Does the ticket cover travel on London trams
Yes, as it is a London travelcard covering at least one of zones 3, 4, 5 or 6

and buses?

The National Rail season ticket calculator only has outboundary travelcards one way round, going from outside the zones to into London. However, validity is symmetric so it makes no difference.

If I'm interpreting correctly, maniacmartin missed the subtlety of this question so I'll offer an additional answer (although Martin's advice is of course correct too) – I'm interpreting your concern as being that because the ticket is issued as Cobham to London Zones, the expectation is that the morning's journey has to begin in Cobham. In which case, don't worry: the ticket allows unlimited journeys on any day at any time of the day or night (subject to services running of course) in any direction.

Do note that these buses (513 and 515 iirc) are not included in the proposed ticket - though I believe a plusbus add-on is available.

I don't think there is a PlusBus that would be suitable unfortunately, you would have to pay per journey or buy a separate period ticket (fares).

Also note, if it's not clear, that the Cobham - Z3-6 ticket is valid on all TfL buses (i.e. red London buses) regardless of zone. If you need to travel in Zones 2 or 1 by rail, you need to buy a paper ticket before boarding or get off in Z3 and touch in on Oyster. The latter will be cheaper, especially if you buy an annual ticket which can have Gold Card benefits loaded onto the Oyster card.
