Here's a question - what defines a "small" station and a "medium" station - bear in mind that Barnstaple's passenger numbers were some 90,000 higher than Axminster's last year? Number of platforms? Connections to London? Number of services?

Just picking out one from my local area - Market Rasen was thoroughly deserving of its commendation for small station of the year. The improvements that have been made there in recent years are excellent for an unstaffed station, with artwork and attractive planters now adorning the platforms. A much improved place to start and finish a journey!

I'd imagine it is to do with passenger numbers (including interchanges) because that is how stations are categorised by Network Rail too.
A difference of 90,000 a year is fairly trivial when you stop to consider that there are stations in the country who see those kinds of numbers almost every day.

Really not surprised that Chiltern have won Operator of the Year - they are a very good TOC which i havent ever had a problem with. Staff are great, they are fairly reliable now and have done a great job with "Mainline" - thoroughly deserved.

Glad Merseyrail got a Highly Commended. They get a lot of flak but I think they do a great job in often difficult situations. Their information and help during the Liverpool Central closure has been excellent.

Chiltern thoroughly deserved their award. Even more deserved are all personal contribution awards and the special award recognising staff's efforts during riots.
