Good Wages
Good pension
Free travel
Short working week
Plenty of overtime
Sense of worth.
Working outside
Out of the rat race
Unsocial hours (I prefer them)

ATOC travel is 75% off the standard fare. (its not always the cheapest !!)

I thought it was 75% off all tickets except advances now!

Was it not a 1 year pilot scheme for 75% off off peak and super off peak? If I remember right it started last September so is due to finish. Does anyone know if it will be kept on?
I will add to the OP, working with some very interesting colleagues!

Depends if the Industry includes NR, the perks aren't quite so good as a TOC.

atoc.org has the full details as well as the restrictions etc.

On and from 7 September 2014 (date of sale), a 12 months’ trial is to commence and the fare on which a “Priv” fare is to be calculated is being expanded to include day and period walk-up off-peak fares (including super off-peak fares). The time restrictions applying to these tickets will also apply to the “Priv” discounted ticket. “Priv” fares continue to be available at ticket offices and on train (if the ticket office is not open on at the departure station).

The following are not covered by this new arrangement:
  • Advance Purchase fares
  • Season Tickets
  • Any fares that include a London Travelcard
  • Non-safeguarded (ie TOC) staff only: any fares that include London Underground zone fares, unless making a through-London journey

Is there any healthcare benefits?

As it is a nationalised health service, free at the point of use, then it's not generally necessary.

No doubt some senior management get private healthcare like bupa thrown in, but not frontline employees.

There are a couple of supplement schemes that provide benefits in an insurance type system, the transport benevolent fund and health shield being the main two.

Those working for Network Rail in management grade bands 3 and above (i.e. the high up ones) get private healthcare. But generally Network Rail staff of all grades get very few benefits and are poorly rewarded, especially when compared with TOC and private contractor staff performing comparable roles.

Yep, Great Northern is part of GTR, which is a member of ATOC, so PRIV staff discounts apply (plus all Govia TOC employees get free travel as they are sister operators). With a handful of exceptions not running to more than a few pages (all on the ATOC website), discounts apply on the vast majority of services operated by train companies which are members of ATOC.
