I have recently set up a new website to promote the re-opening of the Cheltenham to Kingham portion of Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway to provide a link from Gloucestershire to East West Rail

East West Rail is coming

East West Rail is being delivered in phases with upgrading the rundown but extant Oxford to Bedford section prioritised.
The first phase built by Chiltern Railway's by 2016 between Oxford and Bicester to allow a through Oxford - Bicester - Chilterns - London service is complete.
The second phase between Bicester and Bletchley (Milton Keynes) is being built along the site of a freight only line parts of which had been disused since 1993.
It will allow through Oxford to Milton Keynes trains from 2025.
Upgrading the rundown but open Bletchley to Bedford line is being planned to extend line from Oxford to Bedford.
A route for the removed line from Bedford to Cambridge was announced in May 2023.

Existing rail journeys from Cheltenham to Oxford and East West Rail are circuitous via Didcot or Worcester can take up to two and a half hours and cost around £45 return
Existing bus -> rail links from Cheltenham to Oxford via Moreton - in - Marsh can take up to 3 hours
Existing bus journeys from Cheltenham to Oxford take an hour and 45 mnutes to Oxford city centre alone

A restored Cheltenham to Oxford railway link would cut the journey time to around an hour

Through travel from South Wales Forest of Dean and Gloucester to East West Rail would be far easier.

Website is at

Details of the proposed restored railway between Cheltenham and Kingham can be found at this page.
