The classic eighties' thriller Runaway Train, starring Jon Voight and Eric Roberts, is on the iPlayer for about a week or so. Every now and then the BBC secure the distribution rights to show films on the iPlayer, and this is worth catching. In the film, two convicts break free from a maximum security jail in Alaska but choose the wrong train to try and escape on...

Hmm. not sure about it being a super ending! I remember when I first saw the film it was an anti-climax as I was kinda hoping for a spectacular finish similar to the film "Silver Streak"

Sorry, I should of said. My bad!

I think Runaway Train is a terrible film, but I was younger when I first saw it so maybe I might like it more now.....but I doubt it.

As for Silver Streak, I love it! :D

I think the above reveal some pretty big differences about what audiences expect in a movie... Runaway Train is a far superior picture to Silver Streak: better acting, better script, better effects. But it's also a thriller rather than an action movie. It's a remarkable (Golden Globe winning) portrait of what depths humans can sink to... either through their own self-destructive activity or because of what we do to one another in the name of retribution. Most haunting quote (shortly after the two protagonists attempt to kill each other) ...

"You're an animal."
"Worse. I'm human."

Well Silver Streak is more my kind of movie than Runaway Train. :)

Sure it's a bit daft, but it's just light-hearted and fun to watch. :D

I can appreciate that.
Silver Streak is fun, but not in the class of Runaway Train. And the Pryor/Wilder combination were much better in Stir Crazy

True, but you have to remember that Silver Streak was the first film they did together, so they were probably just getting used to working with each other. ;)

I watched Runaway! on Youtube the other week... the 1973 TVM about the runaway Ski Train. Far fetched, but passed an hour or so.
