Salzburg to Munich, which services are run by Obb?

In a couple of weeks time I will be traveling to Vienna by train. One of the days I have planned is a day trip to Munich from Salzburg, where I will be staying for a few days.

I will be travelling on OBB FIP/Priv Coupons so can use OBB for free. Is there any timetables/websites out there that show which services are run by OBB and DB? I have the outward journey planned using the Railjet but stuck on the return. The last Railjet service back is about 6pm IIRC but would like to hang around a bit longer if possible. I have tried various websites/timetables but none list which operator runs the service.

Clearly a blonde moment , I was looking at the wrong timetable. Theres a service at 21:02.....

Not sure if the rules have changed, but I think it's more to do with whose metals you are on rather than the railway sponsoring the train.

In 1999 I travelled from Zurich to Munich on a train which switched from SBB to DB operation en route, and had free vouchers for both.

Unfortunately I had forgotten about the 7-8 miles of Austria in between. Typically I was assisted in my plight by an öbergrippenfürher who charged me a first class single from St Margrethen - Lindau.

I checked with DB when buying my tickets and they said it was to do with the operator but may be different due to the situation. I'll be travelling from Zurich to Salzburg on the Railjet which is operated by OBB and my coupons are valid on these trains. Might be different as it is one operator for the entire journey.

I've been on the Railjet quite a few times, when I've had coupons throughout, but my partner only had them for OBB.
I've always had to pay the (FIP rate) fare from Budapest to Hegyeshalom and from Salzburg to Munich.

Same here.

Whenever I go from Budapest to Munich, the Hungarians always want MAV, Austrians OBB and last the Germans DB. If you just have OBB then I am fairly confident you will be chinged for the FIP fare within Germany.

granted this was a long time ago, but when I did Hoek van Holland-West Berlin I needed NS, DBB & DR coupons, despite it being a DR train

The back of the coupon, (or voucher as they are now), states under the Conditions of Use, 4 .Each coupon may be used for any journey which the holder wishes to make over the lines of the transport company concerned

There are other references to 'network' as well. Simply it means travel over the network between the border points. Whilst it may by an OBB train on crossing the border the staff operating it will more than likely be from the adjacent administration, DB in this case and a coupon or FIP ticket for that country will be required.

Thanks for that guys, I'll have to double check that then. :-?

When I phoned DB to book other tickets I asked about OBB coupons and they said they were valid on Railjet services. I even asked specifically about the services that cross borders, I plan to use them on Zurich - Innsbruck, Salzburg - Munich and other services within Austria

There are some Austrian services that cross borders as part of an internal journey, and on which OeBB tickets and passes are valid. They used to be called Korridorzuege in the days of passport and customs checks and didn't carry international passengers.

The direct Salzburg-Kufstein (-Innsbruck) route is one, the through trains from Innsbruck via Brenner-Fortezza to Lienz another (these now stop in Italy, but I think the rule still applies), and Innsbruck-Reutte was a third.
(The majority of trains on the Reutte line were DB - they all are now - and I learnt the hard way on one of those that I needed a DB coupon from Ehrwald Gr to Mittenwald Gr - got the excess ticket somewhere still!)

The other complication is that OeBB run trains "on their own account" into foreign countries - the Vienna-Koeln/Hamburg sleeper is one and the Brenner ECs too.

I wonder if this has confused the issue for DB-UK?

I see..... This travel malarkey is a bit more complicated than originally thought. I'll give them a call tomorrow and double check, they basically said as an obb run service the coupons would be valid on their trains.

The last time I did München Hbf. to Salzburg on the RailJet it was a German Crew to Salzburg. I think as stated above you will need a DBAG coupon too for free travel.

I booked through DB UK @ Surbiton and stated I had a ÖBB pass but not one for DBAG as I reguired that for later in the year. I was sold an FIP return @ £30.50.

It is correct that some Austrian trains pass through Bavaria and that Austrian passes are valid throughout but I don't think München - Salzburg counts. I would like to be proved wrong though.

Thanks for all the help with these tickets. I have had it confirmed by DB that I will need additional tickets with my FIP coupons. I will need to buy a ticket that will take me to the station listed as the border crossing and can us the coupons from there. This will add a small cost to the holiday but will still get good use out of the coupons whilst there.
