This an invitation to provide additional cycle storage first within one of the carriages and, if agreement can be obtained, within the power cars.

Suppliers are asked to provide a bid for the manufacture, supply and installation of addition cycle racks to ScotRail's Inter-city HST fleet. The additional rack will increase cycle capacity on each rake from two to 12 spaces per service. This would be achieved through creation of four additional spaces within a Trailer Saloon Car (lot 1) and a further three spaces within each Power Car (lot 2). This would see a total increase in available spaces when the fleet is full deployed from 40 spaces to 240 spaces.

Sigh… if only they’d rebuilt the TGS while the had the chance. It could have easily have been done, lose the guards office and extend the saloon into it, then a new door into the van space area similar to the BSO on the Night Riviera.

There’s also the toilets no longer used in every coach that could have been converted with extra bike spaces, rather than just locked. What are they used for?

About time. Cycle provision in the HSTs are very poor. I remember bike facilities being a big plus when Abellio won the contract but other than the 153s on the WHL, there seems to be no big improvement. I think they offer hire bikes at key stations but it seems very poorly advertised.

This sounds fantastic and hope it goes ahead as I've given up trying to get my bike booked onto trains as they're always fully booked by the time I've been near enough to see what the weather looks like.

Is there a reason why the power cars can't be used for bikes?
The area really isn't suitable for the public to be in, so requires staff and time to load and offload, and consequently, is only offered on end to end journeys.

There’s no way the public should be responsible for opening/closing the power car van doors.

God knows, presumably they were to be used as they were on the Western, as trolley stowage and top up points. Though, given how ridiculously small the sole cycle space converted from one former loo or luggage rack is, I wouldn’t even consider converting anymore. One e-bike or mountain bike in those and that’s your bike space taken up in one hit. At least a BSO style set up with a modern van space utilising the TGS would have heavily reduced the need for additional space to be created.

For putting stickers on the doors in the usual "hilarious" ScotRail way.

Very much hoping this allows tandems so those of us with disabled partners can get further into Scotland. Currently only the Pendolini and the 153s allow us on officially although we did sneak on to a class 380 where the bike space is bigger than on Thameslink, where tandems are welcomed. Even power car use Glasgow to Inverness would be a massive increase in options for tandems.

One is for trolley storage, the second contains all the gubbins for the WiFi and the 3rd has electrical boxes in it but for what I don't know. So not useable for bikes.

"A further three spaces within each power car" is exactly what was fitted when they were in service with GWR, did Scotrail remove the racks?

Still there, as seen in 43026 this summer.
