The traffic committee in the Swedish Riksdag has advised Trafikverket (the Swedish Transport Administration) to revise its proposals for the procurement of state-owned night train rolling stock.
The sticking point has been the choice between wider Swedish-profile rolling stock and narrower "continental" profile carriages. The committee concluded that with the smaller cross-section and the necessary insulation in the carriage walls for cold temperatures, the carriages would have a lower overall passenger capacity than a wider carriage.
(This also answers the popular complaint that the beds would be shorter).

Member of Parliament Linus Lakso (MP) reacted to Trafikverket's proposal for narrower trains, saying that he does not think it would work, as the trains become smaller and with sufficient insulation, several seats per carriage would disappear.
"There is a risk that it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The trains we are talking about here are for use here and cannot be resold to another part of Europe ...
