hi - I have a monthly season ticket from slough to Paddington, any route permitted. Is there any way to stop off at Staines as I need to meet up with someone next week and would rather not buy another ticket.
If not, I assume the cheapest option would be to head into Paddington as normal, and get a single back from Waterloo?

Is there a way to get a season ticket that gives the option of the slough-Paddington or Windsor riverside-Waterloo? Slough is generally faster but sometimes it would be handy to go into Waterloo

I believe you can do it with a Travelcard because there's a valid route between the two Windsor stations. A Slough to Zone 1 ticket would work as well ( does that exist as a season?)

Is there a "Windsor stations" to "London terminals" ticket or a ticket that could be interpreted that way?

A Datchet to London Terminals ticket allows this, albeit more expensive than a Slough - London Paddington ticket.

National Rail and GWR journey planners validate the route with a walk across Windsor using one ticket. Clearly a Datchet - London Terminals ticket can be used via Staines.

A Slough to Zones 1-6 Travelcard would be valid.

You travel through Zones 2-5 so it's not possible to exclude them.

No.

The rail industry generally does not like giving people flexibility. Restricting the routes people take is seen as keeping things 'simple' and 'simple = good' :|

Agreed.

It works out as £30.80 extra over a calendar month.

My advice would have been to use an origin like Datchet or Wraysbury etc. A ticket I’ve had multiple times. Handy being able to use both routes but as you rightly point out it is more expensive which is find for a one off but maybe significant for seasons.
