I notice there's a signalling problem between Newcastle and Morpeth.
Does anyone have any more info?

Probably, I figured it's either that or somebody's nicked the cables.
My mate was sat north of Newcastle for around 35 minutes, but seems to be on the move again now, so I'm not sure if they're allowing one train at a time through the affected section or if they're getting it back to normal.

Is it just me, or is the EastCoast prone to having problems? I'm on the EC site quite often and everytime somethings gone wrong!

Thanks for the additional info. The train doesn't appear to have managed to make up any time before London (I think it had, but lost it again)

What had actually happen was the panel for the Newcastle station area had frozen and since the signalller on duty wasn't able to do anything, he had no choice but to press the emergency plunger which turns all his signals on his panel back to danger, resulting in a Cat B SPAD to a XC service.

Not helped by more siganlling problems with the fringe signalboxes but it got all cleard up eventually.

Newcastle being the base for Tyneside IECC in case anyone was wondering.

Is that frozen as in ice or frozen as in crashed ajax?

Frozen as in Windows Blue Screen of Death type, signaller unable to do anything except put all his signals back to danger to protect services in his area.

I've always wondered where this actually is in Newcastle, is it in the station itself or somewhere else?

I don't know, I've been to York, Kings Cross and Peterborough but not yet Tyneside so have no idea where it is.

Believe it's in Gateshead, pretty much across the river from Newcastle station. Gateshead is, of course, to someone from Newcastle, very definitely classed as 'somewhere else' ;)

Of course, the wilds of Durham really!

I think I know where you mean, although I always thought that it was something else to do with the railway and not the IECC.

On a train somewhere in Europe
As Tyneside is an IECC, then the interlocking would be of the SSI (Solid State Interlocking) variety - ie a computer. I have never worked a full IECC, but on the earlier boxes with a traditional push button panel, there is usually an "All Signals On" button for each interlocking area.

Despite it's name it is not actually for replacing signals to danger in an emergency, but a "reset" button for the computers when they are not responding to your commands. When pressed the power supply is cut off to the interlocking area which should then reset itself after a short period of time. HTH

Problems yesterday involved a major points problem at Darlington which stopped trains from accessing the station.

There were problems at Potters Bar this morning with frozen points and a signal failure. The 0845 King's Cross to Kings Lynn, which I was on, went on the slow line for much of the journey and was about 30 mins late into Cambridge and terminated there.
