Can anyone describe what this item is that's put under a locomotive bogie when they use a skate? I haven't heard of it before but a few days ago 59206 became unusable at Robeston refinery due to a seizure of the rear bogie. There wasn't adequate road access to rescue the loco and it couldn't be towed, so they used a "skate" under the faulty bogie and operated the loco at 20mph from Robeston to Margam (light engine of course).

To put it simply it's an attachment that lifts the wheel off the track and keeps it still, and it has a couple of little wheels on it so the train can still move.

Loco is now stabled @ Westbury pending a further move to Merehead where it will be repaired. Subject to the coffers at DB not being empty:D
