Looks like I'm going to be moving later in the year, to Swanscombe in Kent.
As I commute to St Pancras, I would almost certainly travel Ebbsfleet - STP.
If there are problems on HS1, can I go SWM - LBG - STP with no penalty?
If I decide to get a ticket SWM - London Terminals instead, and I decide to go via HS1 for a change, I assume I would need an upgrade?

However, I may also be getting a new job, which would mean going into Waterloo East. If that comes to pass, would I be better with a SWM -WAE ticket?

Wait for the experts to reply, but I believe that Swanscombe-London terminals route "plus high speed" is valid into St Panc, London Bri, blackfriars, Charing Cross, cannon street, waterloo, Victoria, etc. It wouldn't however be valid on the tube or Thameslink from City Thameslink to St Panc HOWEVER if there were serious problems it is likely that FCC and/or LU would accept SET tickets.

34D you are correct it is valid. If you buy a Ticket plus High Speed it is just giving you another added route, albeit you have to pay for it. :)

Yes, that is correct. Effectively, you have a Gravesend to London Terminals via High Speed or Dartford. In addition, you also have available to you Stratford to Liverpool Street, if travelling via Highspeed which is my daily commute from Gillingham.

Generally, you will find its the 'classic routes' that are more generally up the spout rather than HS1.

Very good point sir. Presumably also valid on any Stratford-Fenchurch St trains if they exist (there was one such down train for a couple of weeks last year if I recall correctly).
