I have a long planned trip to Birmingham planned. Due to engineering works I'd planned to make my own way to Basingstoke then Cross Country to Banbury and Chiltern to Birmingham Moor Street on 24/11, coming back on 26/11 booked as 2 separate tickets through TrainPal.

My return legs are both cancelled.

I asked TrainPal if I should claim a refund of the return leg or just refund the whole thing and rebook a trip up. As it was 2 bookings I go two answers, one saying they weren't aware of the cancellations and I can travel another day (I can't as I have to be back) and one saying I can get a refund for the return leg later.

I have already made alternate arrangements to get home but what are my rights here? both tickets are flexible returns.

You are entitled to a refund of just the return portions, if you choose not to travel.

You have 28 days after the day you were due to travel to claim the refund, however I would put the request in as soon as possible.

Thank you. So apply to train pal (rather than chiltern or cross county) as soon as I get home?
