Hi all,

I've seen this sign board while passing over a level crossing and can't find any reference to it anywhere.

I know the 'T' is a termination of a temporary speed restriction but have never seen the 'A' before. Does anybody know what it is for?

*Disclosure, it's a still from a video my partner took passing over the crossing because of speeds/angles involved in the road/layout.

As above, it is a trial indication that the driver can accelerate when the front of the train reaches that point rather than waiting for the full train to be past that point. Especially useful for freight trains and in trial for foot crossing TSRs where the speed restriction is in place due to sighting.

Accelerate when front of train passes this point.

London North Western (South) route trial. Best example is when a temporary speed restriction is applied due to sighting issues at a foot crossing, clearly when the front of the train arrives at the crossing the temporary speed restriction is no longer needed so an Accelerate board is used so the driver does not need to wait for the rear of the train to clear the crossing before accelerating.

Thank you all for the concise response, the trial aspect would explain why I couldn't see it in the Rule Books.

For reference if anyone wondered. This is on the Brekland Line at Croxton AHB.

Had several of them in East Anglia for many years. Usually associated with TSRs purely for sighting such as level & foot crossings.
