Yes, it's true

I happened to be browsing t'interweb and was getting all nostalgic about the days when D9000 "Royal Scots Grey" was rostered onto the 1S87 Ramsgate-Edinburgh service.

I have numerous shots of the loco on this service, taken around SouthEast division and Western main lines.

But I hadn't realised it's been ten years since this ceased - I believe the last run by D9000 was on 10th September 1999.

Is it too late to organise an anniversary repeat performance by the old girl?

55019 did a timetabled service (listed in the all line timetable) from Whitby last year.

yeah it would be nice, it would also be nice for British built locos to prowl our lines instead of the foreign rubbish that currently [insert synonym for "prowls" here] our lines

55022 is fully mainline certified and everything isn't it?

I ask because it doesn't seem to do much actual hauling of trains! I'd love to see it (indeed, I went across to St. Albans on Thursday to see it come through on its way back from Eastleigh. It was running 25 minutes early, I got there 22 minutes early  ) on a train - or even go on it!

It'd be great for doing the sort of stuff 86259 does - you know, operating the non-steam hauled sections of steam charters - I don't know, 60007 one way, 55022 the other, Kings Cross to York.

Sounds good to me! 8-)

Although I'm pretty sure an 86 would have been used north from Birmingham, as generally happened in the days of XC services before these awful DMU contraptions we're stuck with now.

They didn't. Deltics were withdrawn in January 1982. D9000 just made a 'return' to timetabled services for a brief period in the late 1990s. Up until the Virgin services, I'm not aware of any 'timetabled' Deltic turns, however, I'm sure Mr. Blackwatch will ;)

Is it down to one engine?
