Hi everyone,

Next June I graduate from Uni (expected 2:1 in History) and at the moment I'm filling in an application form for the Rail and London Underground Management scheme. I'd be very grateful if anyone could give any tips or hints as to how I can make myself 'stand out'. In particular, I spent the summer last year and the year before volunteering on a minature railway in Hampshire, but I'm not sure whether I ought to emphasise that on the application form, especially since running the Underground is a step up, so to speak.

Thanks,

Tom

I'm in a similar position, (and also going for TFL!) except I've graduated and have about a years working under my belt. Best advice I can give is to ensure that you give plenty of examples of team working (and ideally team leadership), that you emphasise that your going for the role because you enjoy working with people, that you wish to interact with customers and provide exceptional service, and that you know a bit about the organisation.

Hope this helps :)

For the scheme the OP is applying for, although you apply through TfL, the job is actually working in London Underground, so make sure you are aware of the difference between LU and TfL and how LU fits into TfL. However, as recruitment is handled through TfL you are expected to meet the TfL and not LU competencies (confused yet?!) In any case, these are shown on the 'Who we look for' page.

Having passed the application stage you would be expected to do the standard online tests, then a telephone interview and an assessment centre. Those going for LU rather than TfL would be expected to pass a medical as well.

Somewhere, not in London
I have gotten through the online tests and am awaiting a decision on a phone interview, on the Engineering section though... The're not doing phone interviews until applications close.

Hi Tom. I'd include your experience on the miniature railway. It's a railway after all! You can emphasise any safety critical work and anything else that's relevant. Doesn't matter if it's a smaller scale, it's still RELEVANT! Good luck to you all.
