Here is the link to this vacancy. From the description this is a talent pool position.

Do you want a rewarding role that offers solid career prospects?

Have you got excellent communication skills and a passion for people?

Are you flexible, adaptable and willing to learn?

Do you live within 1 Hour of Cricklewood Train Depot in NW2? For safety reasons you must live within this maximum commuting time to the job location and be able to arrive for a variety of shifts, including weekends and nights which will have varying start and finish times, so you will be unable to rely on public transport

At Thameslink and Great Northern, we've modernised the way that we operate services for our passengers. Throughout 2025, we will be looking for enthusiastic individuals with great interpersonal skills to join our team of train drivers that deliver over 3600 journeys per day.

What's the job actually like?

  • Learning – Be ready to hit the tracks (on your own!) within 18 months. Become an expert by undertaking structured classroom based learning, state of the art simulator training and one-on-one driving lessons.
  • Hours – 35 hours a week, 4 days a week. You'll know when your days off will be, so you can plan how work fits in with your family and other commitments.
  • Customer Service - Have the opportunity to provide excellent customer service to thousands of passengers every day, keeping them updated and informed of their journey.
  • Responsibility - Be responsible for the safety of our customers, helping them get to where they need to be - safely and on-time.
What's in it for me?

  • Salary – The starting salary is £36,872 and will rise to a salary of £72,636 once qualified.
  • Benefits – 24 days holiday per year, an excellent pension scheme, free travel across our networks and 75% discount off other train service providers.
  • Career Development – We'll give you the support you need to progress your career and grow your skills.
  • Health – We'll provide you with periodic health checks to ensure that you stay fit and healthy whilst working for us.
  • Culture – Our team is incredibly diverse. Women and men from all walks of life drive our trains.
What's next?

If you're positive, friendly and able to keep a level head whilst handling a range of different situations, this may be the career for you. Click below to apply!

Our recruitment process consists of several stages, starting with online tests through to a series of nationally recognised assessments.

GTR are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age*

*Due to safety regulations, you must be aged 21 or over when you begin your training.

*If successful any offer of employment is subject to a full driver medical which includes passing hearing, sight, and colour vision tests (using the Ishihara plates)

We have opportunities for Trainee Train Drivers in the Cricklewood area to join our Talent Pool during 2025 and later. If your application is successful and you pass the assessment process, you will be placed in a Talent Pool pending available vacancies in 2025 and later in line with our Recruitment Policy.

Please do not apply if you have been unsuccessful for a Trainee Driver position within the last 6 months.

Good luck if you do apply

Closing date Sunday, 22nd December 2024 at 23:45.

Just applied for this
I also applied for this. Strangely though I had applied for Welwyn Garden City back in January and hadn’t heard anything untill last week when I received and email inviting to do the first stage of OPC testing. 11 months almost to the day

I thought GTR did all their driver psychometric tests in house? Didn’t know they also used OPC too.

Rumour has it that thameslink are short of train drivers.
I’m just waiting until they make it easier for applicants to apply for trainee train drivers positions.

There’s enough applicants for the train driver roles that go live today that they have little incentive to change their recruitment processes. I wouldn’t expect any changes any time soon.

Given we are in the festive period, I wouldn’t expect any contact or progress till at least January, and possibly beyond. Railway recruitment is notoriously slow at the best of times, putting aside the time of year we are currently in.

That ain’t a rumour mate, the passengers can see for themselves there’s a shortage of train crew.

Recruitment teams are probably not back in the office yet. Don't expect any movement till next week at the earliest, and even then... Railway recruitment is slow at the best of times, so I wouldn't expect anything till the second half of January at the very earliest. :)

EDIT to add: Just noticed I've already said this once in this thread, sorry for repeating myself! xD

I didn’t get mine I presume I live too far away but I did get my MiniSCAAT for the same role for Southern yesterday. Good luck too all in the process!
Did your email say it was from Southern? As I also applied for both and got a miniSCAAT invite from Govia Thameslink Railway which could obviously be either.

I assumed it was for both as applied at almost exactly the same time and the SJT was identical but if you’re saying the southern invite says Southern I guess I’m still waiting for that.

Yes I received an email about week ago from Southern inviting me to do the miniSCAAT for the trainee train driver role for Southern. Check your junk and fingers crossed you get the email

Yeah thanks I Just got an email 10 minutes from Thameslink saying I was through to the miniSCAAT. Seems like OPC sent me the invite before Thameslink got round to informing me.

Great should find out if I’m through to the next stage, next week.
