Did anyone watch that film the ghost train the other evening on Talking pictures . Just wondered where the live shots were filmed. Looked like the line was overgrown and disused. What did you make of the film generally ?
If it was the 1941 version with Arthur Askey most of it was done in the studio, used models or used archive/library footage. (There was a war on.) The opening section was Dawlish/Teignmouth. Some other shots used Liskeard, Fairbourne and Barmouth Bridge according to IMDb.
I’ve got it on DVD. One of the worst ‘railway’ films IMHO. Arthur Askey’s ‘Vaudeville’ was years past it’s sell-by date even in 1941. Spoiler alert: the main point is the ‘cabin fever’ of a group of random individuals trapped together in an inhospitable location, haunted, etc. rather than the railway aspects.
Not worth making an effort for.
