Next year's prices are £31 Standard, £54 in First for a return. Single fares are £5 cheaper.

We did it this year, and it was fantastic. Definately worth the little extra than the normal SR train. We got the sleeper from Tyndrum Upper and tranferred onto the train at Fort William. The scenery over Rannoch and Corrour is as beautiful, and perhaps even more striking than the Mallaig route (in my humble opinion). It makes for a long day (especially if you base yourself in Glasgow. But one that I know I won't be forgetting any time soon.

Well worth it. Though I just love the West Highlands. Not done the Jacobite for afew years, but did the full journey from Glasgow to Mallaig then the Ferry to Skye when I was a freedom of scotland in Sept 2009.

This year it was £31 plus 'booking fee' which is unavoidable. I would say that that's pretty expensive for an 83 mile trip. It was a good day out though, but I enjoyed the positioning move on the sleeper from Westerton to Fort William more.

You can avoid the booking fee by paying when you get there.
The only problem with that being, at busy times, they are already turning passengers away.
The booking fee is far to high but what I can't believe is that they are using Paypal to take payments.

Indeed. It's a long way to go to get turned away. I booked online 3 weeks ahead, and had to change my plans because the day I actually wanted was already booked up!

I wrote a review of the trip this summer in this thread (post #6):

It's nice to do, but as my (non enthusiast) Dad put it, "[the ScotRail Class 156] is way more comfortable and much cheaper"

Indeed. You can't whack a 156 on this route. They're perfect for it.

Aye, they've got it all.

Excellent seating, reliability, luggage space and large windows.
Bold depicts some of the reasons why ScR deploy them on the WHL
