Since publishing a series of articles about the Micklehurst Loop, I have, over the past couple of years, kept my eye open for interesting shots of the line. This is a selection of these that I have permission to share .... A big thank you to copyright holders/photographers. Their details appear with each image.

A shame the route wasn't protected as it could have been the main electrified route for TPE, releasing paths for an improved local service to serve Mossley and Greenfield, as well as freight and charters. All too late now.

Or even the other way round. Micklehurst would be less good for Mossley but Greenfield station would actually be in Greenfield and Uppermill could also be served.

No thanks. Greenfield station is on the level with my house and a twelve minute walk away. Friezland is much further, and a good deal lower down.

One of the problems with having your four tracks split is that communities on both routes will want a local service, so rather than having slow and fast services segregated you end up with slows on both- which obviously will restrict paths for express trains.

I wasn't really thinking of Friezland, but rather a station on Chew Valley Road. There wasn't much housing in the vicinity of Greenfield station at the time of the closure of the Loop, but there is more now including those which occupy the former Oldham trackbed.

That may have been why the local service on the loop only lasted until 1917 - the service had been a bit sparse and unlikely to attract lots of passengers.
