Apparently 47501 is now on it's own and is 50 minutes down.

47802 has Circuit breaker issues, they kept engaging emergency brakes 47802 has been removed at Exeter

Left Loughborough approx 22:18. I was on it!

The locomotive problems started almost as soon as we left Paignton. Brakes applied suddenly, but we got going again. Same thing happened a little while later and possibly a third time before we arrived at Newton Abbot. Made an unscheduled stop (about 15-20 mins) there for the problem to be investigated and we were told it had something to do with the multiple working equipment and a circuit breaker being tripped. This was apparently reset and the announcer seemed to indicate all was well again. Another sudden stop next to a green signal (on a tangential note, how come the signal was still green when it was next to the second coach (4th vehicle), shouldn't it go red as soon as the loco passes?) We continued at low speed to Exeter where we stopped for another 30ish minutes and the loco was removed and placed in the yard. Staff on board indicated the fault was related to ETH equipment, but the announcement informing us of the removed loco and a 30-35 minute delay did not mention this.

The train then continued at low speed until we passed Bristol Temple Meads (without the scheduled stop) and picked up speed after that. Apparently two HSTs were stuck behind us, one of them for Manchester (Anyone know which?). Arrived Birmingham approx 20:55, Coleshill Parkway approx 21:10, Nuneaton 21:30, Leicester 21:55, Loughborough 22:15 (leaving 22:18 ).

I knew something was up...

I got some video today at St. Thomas and St. Davids, both of which where not my first choices.
I intially wanted to go to Exminster for the 'down' shot, but got stuck in traffic on Exe bridges, so my only choice was to dive into St. Thomas.

...Then in the evening I went with my dad to a field just past Cowley bridge to get them passing through. We waited their for nealy an hour and saw a couple of 'trams' and 'slugs', and a nice grasshopper in the field, but nothing else. So we decided to head home, fortunately I decided to drive pass St. Davids, as we could have gone a different way not seeing the station at all, but good job we did as there it was, well one of them anyway! So we dived in to the car park next to the level crossing as the gates were down, thinking she was on the move, but as it turned out it wasn't her and a tram instead, we were waiting their for a good 10 mins. In hindsight we should have driven back to the field as she would have had to wait for the 'tram' to clear.

I will post a link to my vid on yubetube when completed.

Thanks all,

Matt :D

Yes indeed HST's, I've always used that term for them for the obvious associational reason.

'Slugs', I use this to refer to Voyagers because of the fact they seem to breakdown when a 'little' sea salt washes onto them along the seawall...!

Regarding the signal query, not all signals are first wheel replacement some signals wont return to danger to until the train has passed the overlap but the signal in rear wont change to a proceed aspect until the signal in question has returned to danger. Ive seen whole 390 sets be well beyond a signal before it returns to danger

Voyagers haven't had this problem as such for a number of years now, as they were modified when the problem arose, it was to do with the resistors on the roof for the rheostatic braking system, & the control software was modified accordingly to stop this. Also, calling them 'Slugs' will confuse people, & possibly annoy them, as 'Slugs' are associated with 37/9s, not Voyagers.

Oh well, sorry if I have insulted you in anyway, and sorry to all of you who don't like me calling them slugs... :-x

Personally I dislike the Voyager, it lacks any sense of charisma, just my opinion, so this is not a point to start a massive argument over this and anything else.

Right...! :|

This will depend on the overlap of the track circuit/signal setup, once a signal has reset to danger the signal behind (in rear) will not show a clear/proceed aspect until the track circuit for the signal just passed has been cleared (sometimes ona time delay). You wouldn't want a train coming into a section that is occupied, as the train might be that long the tail end is only just clear of the signal in rear.

As for the 390 been well past the signal this is due to the lenght of the overlaps beyond the signal as it probably due to the signal protecting a junction of some description.
