I spotted this on my Apple News Feed this morning but haven't been able to find it anywhere else (although I'm not massively searching!).

Anyway, is this indeed currently the cheapest 2024 (regular) ticket you can purchase on the UK Railway Network to travel from 1 station to another (Manchester Piccadilly to Stockport in this case)? Special 1-time offers ignored of course.

Quite possibly - I don't know of any Advance tiers with prices less than that (Edinburgh to Haymarket was the cheapest Advance I'd previously seen, though the cheapest tier is now £1.20).

Flexible ticket-wise Lichfield City to Trent Valley or vv at £1.10 is the cheapest I'm aware of.

Manchester Piccadilly to Stockport is nearly 7 miles, so that's a pound every 10 miles. Definitely the best value short-distance fare on TfW, although TPE currently have a £1 sale on.

An article from the Independent that just might may have been inspired by a recent thread on this forum, started by @VideozVideoz on 23 December, entitled "This is the cheapest adult ticket on the network?".

This question ought perhaps to be a FAQ or 'Sticky'.

Fairly sure we had something very similar just over a month ago...

Yes, here we go....

Quite a few £1.00 walk up fares, it would seem.

Exactly. So cheaper than 70p

Let's talk Northern 10p tickets here so not entirely free :D Who got the furthest on one a few years ago? I think I did Stockport to Stoke each way, so 20p for around 100km or 60 miles return. I might have once gone more like 100km one way, but thinking about it these might have been split somewhere, so not quite as good value as the Stoke ones in relative terms.
