Hi,

Off to Torquay in July for a few days, do HST’S still run through Dawlish and is it possible to catch one from Torquay?

Thanks

Yes on a few diagrams, but I don't think any stop at Torquay anymore (apart from 1 evening diagram via Bristol), as they're mostly on Penzance/Plymouth services.

From May the only HSTs seen at Dawlish will be the CrossCountry ones running to and from Plymouth, plus the odd GWR service between Cornwall/Plymouth and Exeter worked by a four-car HST GTi set. Even when the full fleet of those eventually becomes available, which will be well after July, they are unlikely to get to Torbay much.

Hard to say what will be HST operated come July. At present, you can get HSTs from Torquay

I did Torquay-Teignmouth on an HST in December, I believe that service also called at Dawlish. Mid afternoon on a Sunday.

On summer Saturdays (and Sundays?) there are almost always Crosscountry HSTs that stop at both Dawlish and Torquay

I think we'll be seeing a few more HST sets out by then, with potentially GW02 & GW03 in service, plus the so called "Classic Sets" coming into service shortly. That doesn't help services heading down into Torbay though, but it does increase the likelihood of being able to catch a GW HST along the sea wall in the summer.

I don't really think the situation in December last year is going to be replicated in July this year. ;)

Summer Saturdays yes (based on last years timetable) Cross Country's 1V44 0600 Leeds-Paignton which returns as 1S51 12:35 Paignton - Glasgow. Later in the day there will be the 1V52 06:01 Glasgow - Paignton which returns as the 1E67 16:36 Paignton - Leeds. All of these diagrams were booked a XC HST last year and they all call at Dawlish and Torquay in both directions. Considering Arriva XC have hardly changed these workings over the last few years, it is pretty safe to say that this summer these diagrams will be more or less the same.

I wouldn't be so sure.
