Does anyone know how to get a start on the rail network.
I am nearly 40 and been in fabrication and welding since 18.
I know I need a pts card, but can only get one if you have a job with a rail company, they won't give ya a job if you don't have pts card !

You've just missed a lot of jobs with Nexus, quite a lot of track work as well.

sign up at NR webstite > careers tab you can set notifications for jobs as they are announced mondays morning 9- noon are best to look, i have 9 friends now who have applied and been successful over the last 5 years at NR just for a trackman job, does not necessarily have to be on your doorstep a few friends applied for jobs 70 miles away , a year at that depot then once within the company used the internal jobs board to get a move closer to home. most have progressed far further than the original trackman roles they originally applied for and the ones who havn't are just happy doing what they do.

a foot in the door is all you need, dont haveto hit your perfect role first time off as there will plenty of opportunities once in!

Cannt really re-locate as have commitments/mortgage etc...
Don't think network rail or any of the contractors pay lodgings
