Hi everyone,

Firstly thanks to everyone who posts on here! It’s a great help.

I applied for a trainee conductor role and was invited to sit an online assessment within two hours of applying, I sat two parts yesterday as the last part ‘count out the money’ kept crashing. I’d like to know if anyone has any information on what they are looking for from these tests as I found the mathematics part incredibly challenging within the ridiculous time frame they give you to answer, which is frustrating as I know I could answer them with even just ten seconds longer. Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon

I did this with SE and some of the maths question on there had me tearing my hair out! Haha, not sure what they’re looking for but I know I got a fair few wrong (long division not my strong point) but passed regardless, so don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion.

Hey rwalk,

Thanks for you’re reply. I’m certain I got the first three sets right but the last two with the really long division just doesn’t give you enough time to even type it into a calculator, let alone answer them. The count the money part out is faulty so I’m having to now wait to sit that part which is really frustrating as I just want to know the outcome now.

I’m just hoping the other people applying in Hastings have done worse than me, it’s a shame they don’t do the test in conjunction with an interview as I think that would have a fairer outcome.

Please if anyone else has any information please do leave some comments. I want to know what the next stage is like also.

Thanks again

I sat the last pet successfully now. But sadly have not heard anything back at all about passing or failing. Does anyone know if not hearing might be a good sign? I’m super keen for this role and it’s the not knowing and no communication that’s really tough to deal with.

Hi guys and girls,

Quick update. I passed the assessment Centre and was invited for a line manger interview on the same day and was told I had passed the manager interview. Next stage is the medical and was wondering if the speed of the first parts of the process was normal? and how long I might have to wait to start training?

Thanks in advance

Hi dan,

I’d say go to a quiet room nd try to be relaxed as possible as they are timed questions. No one ever answers them all so focus on accuracy. I’m currently waiting for my training date.
This is the first of two rounds of assessments, of you pass this you will have a similar exam style assembly followed by some role play.

Let me know how you get on tomorrow.

I’ve just been sent a link for an online assessment with West Midlands Rail. Safe to say I’m bricking it haha- what exactly can I expect from it? (sorry to resurrect an old post!)

I presume it’ll be a customer service related assessment as I know west mids now want to bring a better service to the Midlands
