Hi

I am going with a friend on Monday.

We want to ideally travel on the 0930 or 0945 950 bus to the park from Staines stn. So want to arrive by then.

We both have YP railcards.

We can travel from either Chiswick or Richmond stations. Chiswick would be slightly easier but if the price difference is a fair bit cheaper from Richmond we can go from there instead, not a big deal.

Is there any tickets that would include travel on the 950 bus? If not how much is the day return bus fare does anyone know?

What is the best option for train travel? Obviously possibly buying single tickets for each direction if that makes it cheaper etc.

Thanks in advance.

The Day return is £10.10 each from Chiswick to Staines. As from the times you have given you would presumably be travelling when Off-Peak tickets are not valid and unfortunately the £12 minimum fare applies to your Railcards so it's cheapest to buy the ticket without Railcard discount.

Much cheaper but slower I guess to get the 290 Bus from Twickenham to Staines (£1.50 each way if you both have Oyster cards) Then it's £2.30 outward +£1.90 return using Oyster for the Train from Richmond to Twickenham.

Total each would be £7.20, not sure if that is worth the added hassle to just buying the through tickets!

The Thorpe Park bus is quite often busy, with people standing up to the windscreen every day, sometimes you may have to wait for the second bus. The Abellio Surrey 461 from Staines also serves the park directly once an hour, costs £3.20 return each, but you would have to go to the bus station for that.

Been before on a weekday and its usually been OK. You would have thought that at busy times they would enhance it from the usual 15 minute frequency.

No not worth the hassle I think. Would rather pay the extra. Also don't have Oyster.

I saw that but according to that website, those are last years fares. Have they gone up at all? Bit shoddy of the bus company to be showing out of date info.

So does anyone know/can anyone help... what works out best in our scenario?

The Thorpe Park bus does not adhere strictly to its timetable. My son has used it several times and tells me he has known it leave early and omit the bus station when fully loaded but also wait for another train to arrive and leave later than scheduled if quiet.

I've had to wait a long long time for the bus when I got the train the first time. Best thing to do is learn to drive and drive there ;)
