*1: Stamford is very pretty, with a river and lots of historic buildings, and a splendid, small but intricate station, unfortunately the signal box is neglected and somewhat vandalised.
*2: A youth came into 1st and asked the guard if he could charge his phone, he was told he could. He sat down and proceeded to make a pain of himself with loud obnoxious video calls, so the guard checked his ticket. He didn’t have one at all (didn’t even seem sure where he was going); guard tossed him off at Melton Mowbray (and made sure he stayed off). If he’d just sat down and been unobtrusive he would have been fine. Last seen on his phone trying to get his mum to buy him a ticket.
*3: Luckily the Nottingham train was late or this connection would not have worked.
