Is it possible to complete an A to Z of brands found on rail hauled containers in the UK? Surely there must be, especially with the global nature of shipping.

A - ACL / PL / ASDA / AWS
B - Beacon / Bulkhaul
C - CAI / CALT (LOGIS) / Capital / CARU / CCNI / China Shipping / Cleveland Containers / CLdN Cargo / CMA CGM / CNC Line / COSCO / Cronos / CULINES
D - DAL / Den Hartogh / Dong Fang
E - ECS / Evergreen
F - Florens (FSCU) / Ford / Freightliner
G - Geest / GESeaco / Global / Gold
H - Hamburg Süd / Hanjin / Happag Lloyd / HMM / HOYER / Hyundai
I - ICL / IFF / Interbulk (IBC) / ITALIA
J -
K -
K-Line / Kien Hung
L - LYS Line
M - Maersk / Magellan / Malcolm / MOL / Morrisons / MSC
N - NB / Nedlloyd / NewPort / NileDutch / NYK Line
O - ONE / OOCL / OPDR
P - PalTank Ltd / P&O (P&O Nedlloyd)
Q -
R -
Raffles / Russell (Davies)
S - Safmarine / Samskip / Seaco / Senator / Stobart (Multimodal) / Stolt
T - TAL / Tesco (+ Lessco2) / tex / Touax / Triton
U - UASC / UBC / UES / Uniglory / Unit 45
V - Viasea
W - WEC Lines (WECU)
X - Xines
Y - Yang Ming
Z - ZIM

For clarity, I’ve been Googling all the suggestions and checking Flickr, images and even various scale modelling brands for assurances they’ve operated on UK rails!

For lease, hire or ah-hoc brand suggestions, so long as they have an ‘own brand’ liveried container then it counts.

20ft / 40ft are generally what we’re looking for!

You also see a lot of Stobart Rail containers (both steel and semi steel/semi curtain) and an odd ASDA one now and again...

Nice. For argument sake, I’ll probably take just the classic solid container and not curtain sided, but all three of those have had solid containers!

China Shipping
COSCO
Hanjin
K-Line
ONE
Classics. I could be wrong, but aren’t all of those Asian companies?

There was a bunch more I couldn't make out from my phone photos of DBs Grangemouth container depot.
I'd of payed more attention if I knew there was a quiz.

Excellent suggestions. I wonder how many of these can be found in model shops!

Missing only 8 letters now.

Are we just looking for a list of names on the side of containers because:
See a lot of ’Cleveland Containers’
They are a container sales and leasing company based in Stockton

Unit 45 seems to be quite common now
They are a container manufacturer

B - Beacon
Aren't they also a supplier and tracking company?

For B you want Bulkhaul - Middlesbrough based, yellow and blue ISO Tanks full of all kinds of stuff. Mostly dangerous smoggie chemicals!

Ah, that’s interesting. Wonder why they always appear on the Coatbridge liner then and nothing else.
Oh - I am sure I have seen a few pass Bletchley - perhaps they have a contract with one particular company or perhaps they just do some sort of spot hire arrangement for smaller companies

You can go on line and buy one for your garden if you want! ( they sell a range of mini containers about the size of a garden shed)

Another T is Triton

Another H is HES

Another C is CAI

I'll look through some of my other videos later to see if i spot any others, especially missing letters.

Thanks, that is interesting. It’s more that I’ve only noticed them on 4S88, but I’m sure they are found on other services that I don’t keep an eye on (66s!).

I am going to have a look through my pictures tonight and see if I can see any other companies - you tend to see a lot of Maersk, ONE, MSC, China Shipping and Evergreen - perhaps the key is to paint your container a very bright colour!

( Tesco boxes tend to be north of Rugby)

There is a French one I see from time to time: CMA CGM

I tend to see the container trains on my way to work so am not caffeinated enough to work out what service it is!

Another T is Triton
they are another sales/lease company rather than a shipping "line"

Brilliant thread topic!

You’ve already said it, but ONE are my “favourite”, if that’s possible, as they always seem to look immaculate! :) Presumably it’s just a new-ish brand and hence has fresher paintwork?!

Russell Davies (Scottish logistics company; they have or had a few containers).

It's an amalgamation of the three major Japanese lines - Mitsui, NYK and K Line set up a few years ago. I presume containers are being progressively repainted and rebranded.

A2B - Dutch short-sea shipping line based in Moerdijk operating into Thamesport and other UK ports. Not sure if they use rail in the UK much, if at all. Their business model seems to be to use shipping to the closest port and then road.

My brief, but consistent research has drawn both blanks for these. Do you have any images or a good alibi for either!? A2B seem most likely.

For Russell, see this photo:

Link has photo to DRS loco pulling container train, including ‘Russell’ container.

Here's a pic of an A2B container - website is https://a2b-online.com/ if you want more.

Wow. I was searching ‘Russell Davies Containers’ and getting blanks. Strange how a powerhouse like Google couldn’t bring up ‘Russell Containers’..

Is this a UK port? Thanks!

I'm struggling with the letter 'Q'. There's a leasing company called Qube Containers

No idea - it came off their website. I guess it might be their main base in Moerdijk.
