Hi all - I will be travelling on the Tyne Valley Line tomorrow from Carlisle to Newcastle. Which side of the train should I sit on for the best views? It's been a long time since I bashed this line and I remember the left is better (facing north...).

I agree, the north side has more of interest. Remember to look out for the signal box at Wylam, perched on the end of the footbridge, which is also on the north side.

Pretty much agree with this. If you have a chance to do so though switch sides somewhere around the Metrocentre (plenty of people will get off and on so you should have the opportunity) as that will get you on the bridges side of the train as you travel into Newcastle!

Doesn't it run east-west?
I think the answer to this is in the OP . . . .

AlterEgo will be travelling from the west to the east. By sitting on the left (facing the direction of travel), he will be on the north side.

No?

Yes, that's what I meant. Plus, looking north avoids the possibility of having your view made unbearable by direct sunlight...!

I'd forgotten about the signalbox at Wylam - I'll try and keep an eye out for it.

If you get a Pacer you should have good views of both sides, but looking north is better.

I'm due to take a Scotrail service, so I believe it'll be a 156. Still good views though.

But appalling seats mind!
Been along this line today and the snow has gave a nice covering of the hills in the distance, particularly prominent to the south side of the line. To the north the snow doesn't seem as obvious but as I was on the RHS going to Newcastle I wasn't paying that much attention.
My personal favourite bit of line is the curve at Warden (west of Hexham) where the line curves 90degrees right and at a bit of speed too. Looks nice when a freight train comes the other way at the same time

Be on the North(facing) side, again for all the great scenery...
I agree about Wylam Signal Box....
Have a safe trip :)

Sadly my train won't be stopping at Wylam so I won't get a proper look... :(
