Hi all,

Does anyone know which Metro stations have been refurbished since the 'All Change' programme began back in 2010?

We'll have to gather a list of those refurbished/upgraded and those which are due to be revamped within the next year.

So far, I understand that the following stations have been revamped;

Haymarket - Revamped Station
North Shields - Revamped Station
Pelaw - Revamped Station
Hadrian Road - Revamped Station
Sunderland - Revamped Station
Walkergate - *Currently getting a revamp

Hebburn - Due to be revamped in 2014
Jarrow - Due to be revamped in 2014
Bede - Due to be revamped in 2014

A few old Metro Stations which I note haven't been revamped yet are;
Airport
Callerton Parkway
Monument
Central Station
Gateshead
Gateshead Stadium
Felling
Heworth
Tyne Dock
Chichester
South Shields
St James'

If anyone can help add to the list and perhaps submit any photos of before and after to the stations which have had a facelift, it will be interesting to see.

Thanks :D

Tom

Chillingham Road has had it's revamp, IIRC nothing major, just colur scheme change and new ticket machines.

Some of the stations have just had a lick of paint, from my area that's South Gosforth, Ilford Road and West Jesmond. Shame really I liked the South Gosforth bridge red before they painted it black

Am I correct in thinking that Monument and Central Station are to be done in the style of Haymarket when they get a revamp? i.e. like a Tube station, rather than the retro 70s blocky vibe they have currently.

I did notice that Haymarket can now take 8 carriage trains since it was done up as well - is that a long term aspiration?

Geordie back from exile.

If you mean the northbound platform at Haymarket then that has always been considerably longer than most platforms on the Metro due to the position of the lift access.

Oh - I thought it was rare thinking ahead...

I've updated the list of revamped stations. It appears I was wrong about the Airport and Callerton Parkway stations, they now carry the new White and black Metro branding.

There are still some stations which I don't know if they have been repainted and had old signs and panels removed and new ones installed, so if anyone can help out with the list, it would be greatly appreciated.

The list is below;

1) Revamped Station - Painted in White and Black and carries new Metro branding
2) Upgraded Station - Upgraded, new lighting, tiles, etc but no new Metro branding
3) Old Station

Airport - Revamped Station
Callerton Parkway - Revamped Station
Bank Foot - Revamped Station
Kingston Park
Fawdon
Wansbeck Road - Revamped Station

West Jesmond - Revamped Station
Jesmond - Old Station

Wallsend has been done up a bit, lick of paint and new signage.
Meadow Well has also been refurbished from what I can remember.

Meadow Well, Howdon and Chillingham Rd were the first three smaller halt stations which had a makeover, which included new platform surface, new vitreous enamel panels and the new colourscheme. Since the cost overrun with North Shields, the other outlying stations have had a different, less intensive overhaul which has been limited to new paint, new station name signs and tactile panels on the platforms. Lot cheaper to do. This includes South Gosforth, Bank Foot, Airport etc.

Pelaw hasn't been done under the All Change has it?

I thought that Pelaw was done 10 years (roughly) ago because of the fire that destroyed the old platform/seating area? Pelaw was like Felling originally.

Jarrow, Hebburn and Bede are all due to be done in the next few months when the line down this way is closed. They are only minor changes - replacing old signage with the new Black and White colour (?) scheme and new flooring similar to that of Chillingham Road, Howdon etc.

Central Station is the next for a proper full on refurbishment like Haymarket.

:-? Thats the first I heard of that and I for one has never heard of such an event occuring.

The reason Pelaw got modernised was down to the fact since the Sunderland line opening it became an interchange and with increased passengers numbers, they wanted to create an enclosed waiting area and a more attractive looking station as a result. I'm led to believe Pelaw is the first outdoor station on the system to have an enclosed waiting area?

You know it's got me thinking too! I could of sworn it was a fire/vandalism that caused it to be rebuilt but it looks like you may be right! :P

Spokesperson for Nexus writes:

"You can add to the Refurbished stations:
Meadow Well.
Percy Main.
Howdon.
Wallsend.
Chillingham Road.
West Jesmond.
Ilford Road.
South Gosforth.

Tynemouth - has also been restored by its private owner with financial support from Nexus. The platforms will get further work from us in future to improve accessibility and signage."

Seems to be a problem with the job done on the platform at South Gosforth, as some of the tactile panels have started to lift.
