I have an rail only annual season ticket from East Dulwich to London Terminals (my usual destinations are London Bridge/Charing Cross).

I may need to be in Vauxhall next week. The bus will probably be quicker and easier, but I presume my ticket is valid if I change at Waterloo East?

My reasoning being that Vauxhall is a London Terminal?

Vauxhall is not a London terminal.

However NRE will, with suitable prompting give a valid itinerary via Tulse Hill and Wimbledon (!) to Waterloo so it would appear to be valid anyway.

Also valid via Peckham Rye and Clapham Junction.

There are probably other routes too but all give validity Waterloo to Vauxhall.

Sorry, I'm afraid it is a London Terminal according to a page on the (unfortunately not public) National Rail Knowledgebase, which lists the 'terminals' as:

  • City Thameslink
  • London Blackfriars
  • London Bridge
  • London Cannon Street
  • London Charing Cross
  • London Euston
  • London Fenchurch Street
  • London Kings Cross
  • London Liverpool Street
  • London Marylebone
  • London Paddington
  • London St Pancras International
  • London Victoria
  • London Waterloo
  • London Waterloo East
  • Moorgate Underground
  • Old Street Underground
  • Vauxhall

They give this example that mentions Vauxhall:

A ticket from ‘LONDON TERMINALS’ to ‘Brighton’ route ‘ANY PERMITTED’ is valid from Blackfriars, Cannon St, Charing Cross, City Thameslink, London Bridge, Victoria Vauxhall or Waterloo, as these are all served on lines shown in the Routing Guide as allowed with this ticket. It is not, however, valid from any other designated London terminal station, including those north of City Thameslink.
The data behind this is somewhat inconsistent, missing out a few stations from the group defintion, but the other way round it's all there - Vauxhall station's fare location data clearly identifies its group as 1072, London Terminals.

Vauxhall is indeed a London Terminal for ticketing purposes, and going via Waterloo East/Waterloo is absolutely fine.

Just a quick heads up - there are no trains at Waterloo East next week

Tulse Hill is probably valid, never tried, but how did you get NRE to suggest Wimbledon?!

Thanks for the help! Off on Tuesday. Am I valid then going:

East Dulwich - Peckham Rye - Clapham Junction - Vauxhall?
East Dulwich - West Norwood - Vauxhall?

And the elusive Wimbledon option - how does that work?

Yes to both of those.

East Dulwich - Tulse Hill - Wimbledon - Vauxhall

If you can get an itinerary for East Dulwich to Waterloo via that route then it is fine. It will take quite a while though. The Peckham Rye option is probably quickest, with via London Bridge, Waterloo East and Waterloo next quickest.

Thanks - I hadn't realised that I could use the ticket on London Overground. It opens up a lot of unexpected trips I can make although I can imagine barrier staff at Wimbledon might not be aware enough if I was to break my journey there.

Overground is part of National Rail, whatever people may try to tell you, and in South London almost entirely shares its routes with other passenger operators.
