Hello,

I'm looking to make a journey from Warrington Bank Quay to Edinburgh on Tuesday 25 October and returning Thursday 27 October. The National Rail Journey Planner indicates for journeys between these locations (taken via WCML) "will not run as shown" talking about amended services in the Rugby / Stafford / Birmingham area. However clicking on 'more details' links to this page: http://nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/303793.aspx which just immediately redirects to the journey planner home page.

On the Avanti West Coast planner these journeys don't seem to have any warning that I can see (though I may be missing it) and their specific page on the engineering works (https://www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/t...?incidentref=e23a802083eb4e4b968afedd8088dfbe) isn't really clear on what impact there may be on the route I'm interested in beyond "other train services will be diverted to run on alternative routes, and may run earlier or later than usual." and that the journey planner might be updated, at some point.

I can't really get a feeling on whether these trains will run at all or not, or where or when I might be able to get more information on their timings if they are running. I'd be grateful for any advice.

The trains will run, just "not as shown" as they're diverting via Birmingham New Street to avoid the closure between Rugby and Stafford.

Thanks both for your replies. It seems the timetables just took a long time to update before I could get my ticket with confidence the train would actually run - unhelpful when the general advice is to book well in advance to get decently priced fares. The rail network is in quite a disgraceful state at the moment.
In any case I did manage to make my journey, so all's well. Plenty of people affected around me though by shortened journeys and cancellations, there's a lot of anger out there at the moment with the train network.

Glad it worked out.

AFAIK the starting point for any Advance fares will be the same* whether they are put on sale 2 weeks or 8 weeks ahead - if you can't book, no-one else can.

(*maybe not when you have to have reservations with 2 different operators)
