I have a TPE advance ticket from Edinburgh to Newcastle. I should have booked it from Haymarket as it would be more convenient.

I have read on here that Waverley and Haymarket tickets are treated as interchangeable. I have used them as such in the past, but only to go one extra stop on the same train, or to get off a stop early (technically not allowed on advances).

In this case I would have to take a different Scotrail train (or even another TOC) to my booked TPE, and possibly pass through barriers twice, unless I choose a train that is booked for an unbarriered platform. Is using the ticket in this way acceptable?

I'm happy to walk it if I have to, the main reason is I don't want to is that I will have a heavy wheeled luggage.

Is the price for your Advance still the same if you rebook? If so depending on the retailer you could use the book with confidence scheme with regards to the original booking.

Quite honestly though I would just get on my booked TPE service at Haymarket with my existing ticket.

In the OP, they state their booked train is not calling at Haymarket.

May have to shell out for an additional Haymarket->Edinburgh Waverley single. (= £2.70). Or it's £1.80 on the tram.

Seems a sensible move, local agreements about ticket validity are just the sort of thing that are an accident waiting to happen. I expect sooner or later a new staff member is almost certain to disagree…

To be fair - it's Scotland. Penalty Fares and private prosecutions simply don't exist - so the worst possible penalty would be having to shell out for a new ticket. And potentially standing in a queue for a few minutes in order to do so!

Do TPE still run trains from Edinburgh to Newcastle?
Occasionally ;)

maybe worth asking at a ticket office that you are going past anyway (such as on outward travel) if they will endorse it for travel from Haymarket. If they say no you still have the walk option that you mentioned in your original post.
