Good evening all! Please could someone help me with this? I have purchased an advanced ticket travelling from wellingborough to london st pancras and was wondering if it will be valid on the underground? The ticket says 'from: wellingborough* 'To:U1*london. Does this mean that I can use it in zone 1 multiple times on the valid until date? Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

it is a single from wellingborough to a zone 1 station, the ticket will be swallowed by the gates when you exit a station in zone 1.

No.. You cannot basically this ticket is valid from wellingborough to any lu station in zone 1 for one single journey only, once you leave station ticket will be swallowed by barriers. As it is not like a travelcard.

Yep, as others have said, it's not a Travelcard. One journey only in Zone 1, sorry!

If Pimlico is in Zone 1 then I think that is valid to travel on to there, when I put in Wellingborough to Pimlico (Tube) on the East Coast website the ticket you hold is offered. However, I think you have to pass through the barriers at St Pancras to reach the underground. I presume you would have to explain your plans to an inspector at the barrier.

I've just checked and Pimlico tube station is in Zone 1.

No. There's no need to explain your plans to anyone.

On arrival at St Pancras, you need to use your ticket to exit platforms 1 - 4, the East Midlands Trains platforms. The ticket will be returned to you because the journey has not been completed. Destination U1* London is different from a London Terminals ticket, which may well be retained by those barriers. U1* London also includes one single Underground journey from the Underground station at your arrival London Terminal to any other Underground station in Zone 1. Compared with a London Terminals ticket, you have paid extra for this inclusive ticket.

You then need to use your ticket again at the entry barriers at Kings Cross St Pancras Underground station, and finally at the barriers to exit from Pimlico, where it may well be retained.

Thank you to everyone for your valuable help. Can you purchase an underground travelcard at any train station office outside london? or the internet?

Day Travelcards exist to London Zones 1-6 from all stations within the old Network SouthEast boundary (see map). They also exist from some other stations where the local operator has created them, for example Wellingborough and Newark.

Travelcard season tickets exist to London Zones 1-6 from a wider area which corresponds, I think, to those stations which have season ticket fares to London.

You can buy Day Travelcards online at East Coast. For a Wellingborough to London Zones 1-6 Day Travelcard, enter WEL to 0035.

I'm struggling to find an online retailer of Travelcard season tickets from outside the London zones.

I can see no reason why you shouldn't be able to buy any of these tickets from any staffed station.

Thanks again. Would it be more cost efficient to purchase a day travelcard for myself and the wife (£11.20 a day for 2 days costing £22.40) rather than paying for each journey of the underground seperately?

You've already paid for your first journey, as you have gathered!

You could get an Oyster card and use Oyster Pay As You Go (PAYG). Providing you always touch in/out and don't do any complicated journeys, you will be fine with that, and only pay up to a certain maximum amount each day. The maximum amount should be no greater than the equivalent Travelcard price.

If you know you will do plenty of journeys and get a Travelcards worth, then you may wish to get a paper Travelcard and that eliminates the worry about touching in/out and getting a "maximum cash fare".

Unfortunately it's not possible to load a one or two day Travelcard onto Oyster (only one week and greater).

Yes if you plan to do more than a couple of journeys. Your best bet is to get an oystercard (available online from TfL). That way if you end up not using it enough to justify a travelcard you will only pay for the single fares. You need a £3 deposit, but you can get that back if you surrender the card. As long as the ticket office is open you can do that at Pimlico just before using the advance ticket to travel to St Pancras.
