What's the official way to write the shortened word for 'junction'? I have seen it as Jnc, Jcn, Jn and Junct in various places, such as on electronic boards and on timetables etc, but is there an official way of writing it? Many thanks.

There's no real system; it could be any or all of them depending on what you were looking at (ticket, timetable, CIS, etc). And of course on the roads it's pretty much universally J.

Ctl for Central and Pkwy for Parkway seem more uniform though.

I have always thought it was "JCT", and this should be uniform.

"STNS" is the accepted for "Stations" e.g. "Manchester Stns".

The general rule about formulating an abbreviation of a word is to use the first and last letters, and not to use a point.
Hence I always use Jn (not Jn.).

Jct/Jcn/Junc always strike me as ugly.

Same here, I do think that the simple 'Jn' looks a lot neater and more presentable.

I much prefer the use of Jct.

Another one that gets me on EMT's Meridians is the use of 'Luton Airport Park' rather than Luton Airport Pkwy (or Pwy).

The LNER standard pattern nameboard at Brampton Junction station still existed until the mid 70's and said "Brampton Jct"

I like Jcn, but only because I used to used Clapham Jcn, which seems to rhyme nicely if enunciated.

I've seen Jctn and Jn regularly; Jcn less so. I always thought it was a function of how much space one had available.

I have always thought Jct was the most used abbreviation. Language and it suse chanegs over time, so it's quite possibel Jn will become more common. If so, I will have no complaints!
