I'm sure the answer is here but I can't find it amongst everything else.

What time and day do Avanti West Coast [AWC] release new advanced tickets?

For AWC advanced booking information, National Rail Enquiries [NRE] states the following
Advance ticket and reservation information last updated Friday 23 February 2024

Is Friday the day AWC release new tickets or just the day NRE gets updated with the info, with tickets being available from Thursday evening?

I can't answer your question, but for me I have used Trainline (and others) to sign up for alerts when advance tickets are released by Avanti and have been able to book them promptly on receipt of the notification.

I will do that. I don't have Trainline installed but I could install that or the Avanti app. It's only for the notifications. I wasn't intending to book with them unless they are the only site selling the Advanced tickets.

Exactly, you can set up an email alert and don’t need to use Trainline to buy the ticket. I never use them myself either.

I note Trainline only offer it for single journeys. I'd rather it alerted me based on a more broad tickets are on sale, so I will look at AWC to see if they base the alert more broadly rather than individual trains.

Looks like AWC also only do it for individual journeys.

I will use Trainline and hopefully it will send a notification to my Android system notifications on my work phone.

UPDATE: I've just gone on the Trainline and I am seeing advanced purchase tickets for 20th May, yet NRE say they are only on sale up to 17 May.

It seems I can buy tickets on AWC for today and perhaps they release tickets every day but NRE is only updated once a week! So by the time it is updated, a lot of cheap advances have been sold. Good job I checked today, rather than wait.

What I will do is buy tickets for 20 May and then work out the returns tomorrow/Wednesday as applicable.

This will be from London, as although travelling from south of London, no way would such tickets be available now. So it will certainly be cheaper to split.

Advances are only available as singles, and only on specific trains. So you'll be alerted when they are available for the train you want.

They might have some flexibility about what train they'd choose.

Usually tickets for all trains on the same route on one day are released on the same day, though.

This is exactly right. There is flexibility.

Four people are travelling from 3 or 4 different stations and meeting at Euston so it was a case of coordinating trains that work best in terms of everyone getting to Euston, without people having a long wait for others or being on a train that isn't so cheap as am alternative nearby.

To my surprise, even Southern have advances for sale on 20th.

Incidentally NRE journey planner stops just before the 20th but others don't.

I've worked out the train and tomorrow, after a brief catchup with some colleagues, will be booking, along with the returns.

Interestingly, whilst tickets for 20 May were available yesterday, tickets for 21 May are not available today. Looks like an alert will be needed after all.
