Xativa > Madrid (Direct)

Hi - i'm visiting my parents later in the year (Xativa is their nearest reasonable sized station), and hoping to go to Toledo for a couple of days in the middle of the trip. I went to Madrid last year and we got the train to Valencia, and then changed to Madrid. My parents have been told that there is a direct train from Xativa to Madrid and if you Google search this, it does suggest Xativa to Madrid (Atocha) is a direct route, but I cannot see any timetables, or buy tickets in advance online. Does anyone know if this is a route, or do you have to change at Valencia?

I have had a look at the European Rail Timetable and it looks as though you would either have to go into Valencia or get a train to Alcazar de San Juan and change there, which might be cheaper. It is not an area or a country that I know.

Yes, no through trains to Madrid since the opening of the high-speed line to Valencia. There are occasional MD / local services to Albacete where you can pick up high-speed services ex Alicante / Murcia. Or, as Gloster says, continue to Alcazar and change to regional services to Madrid from there.

So never trust a Google transport search unless you know for sure that all relevant operators provide an up to date GTFS feed. If you know that you possibly wouldn’t need the Google data other than the pretty map.

For Spain I normally use the DB planner because the Renfe "planner" is not fit for purpose, mildly put. But indeed no more direct trains to Madrid.

Isn't the Xativa-Valencia new HS line on the verge of opening, as has been the case for several years?
The whole Xativa-La Encina corridor is supposed to be upgraded and dual-gauged.

It's gone, it got cut after Covid. Nowadays you have to change at València (station change) or Albacete/Alcázar (longer but more comfortable).

The station change at Valencia is easily walkable or there's a free shuttle.
