XC 221126 at Carstairs

Does anyone have any idea why XC 221126 is sitting in the Engineering Sidings at Carstairs?

It was coupled directly to 37423, but the tractor departed solo to return south last night (17/04/25).

Very unusual to see a passenger unit sitting in the usually exclusive domain of Stoneblowers, Grinders and Tampers.

Engine failure on Tuesday morning. Unit was already running on 3/5 engines and the fire bottles erroneously discharged on one of the remaining engines which then refused to restart so the unit was not permitted to return to Edinburgh. Two rescue attempts made so far I believe, but on both occasions the coupler provided to the assisting train was defective so they're currently waiting to have a third go at dragging it back to Central Rivers.

Probably been a very long time since any passenger stock was shunted into Carstairs depot and will be a very long time before it happens again.
