It's easy to do online and you can change multiple times. The only issue is if you have chosen a cheaper but longer route, when you go to change the ticket, it will only usually offer the faster more expensive route so that can be a pain, but for single route option tickets it works great and is free.

My (awfully bad) memory thinks it was in the 2007 franchise bid. Am I wrong?
The fee change came in after the direct award which was given in September 2016. This was the same contract which removed the fee from the wifi, and saw CrossCountry take up the lease of two more Voyager vehicles which had been long term out of passenger service.

But the forum booking site offers this for £5 per booking and additionally offers splits
OP here

I've never actually booked with CrossCountry, it was just that I saw the article mentioned and thought it might be useful for somebody.

I have booked with the forum's site a few times, but have never needed to make a change, so didn't know about the fee. A £5 fee per booking does seem very reasonable .. I'm sure other sites charge per ticket

That page is horribly misleading - aside from the title it implies nothing will be charged at all!
CrossCountry don't charge fees for change of advance... What's misleading?

Oh, right, do you mean it implies not even the difference in cost would be charged?

Yes, I mean that. It would be very easy to read it that way. If someone bought a ticket on that basis, XC could end up on a legal sticky wicket.
